2010 YOUTH ART SHOW
October 2nd to October 14th
All About Me

The 2010 Youth Art Show  is a great opportunity for first time exhibitors to show work alongside people your own age.

The exhibition showcases diversity and uniqueness through self portraiture. This is open for interpretation; it can be what ever you want it to mean, you can reveal a deeper side of who you are, through an abstract approach or simply a representation of your physical self.  It can also be what ever you feel a self portrait is or should be.

Alternatively, you are able to describe through your chosen medium a meaningful stage or event in your life.

This opportunity is available for anyone between the ages of 13 – 24 years.  Entry forms will be available on the website and at front desk from the 9th August.

For more information on the show download an application form by clicking here or alternatively contact the exhibitions coordinator Ben:  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or ring the Depot on 09-9632331

TEXTILE EXHIBITION 2010
November 13th to November 25th 2010
Sewing the Seed for a Textural Garden

The Depot is proud to announce the third annual Textile Show, ‘Sewing the Seed for a Textural Garden’.  This opportunity is open to all artists, and will once again be showcasing design and soft tech work from Takapuna Grammar Students alongside the main exhibition.

Our thanks to Kim Wood who has taken on the mantle of chief organiser this year, developing a theme which embraces the original vision of the textile exhibition; to offer a platform within which individual artists can push the boundaries of their practice, whilst building and strengthening the textile community by offering them the chance to organise and run their own show.
The exhibtion will run from November 13th to November 25th 2010

Exhibiting at the Depot

The Depot has a proud history of supporting the arts at every level, and we would love to hear from you. The Depot is based on the fundamental values of service, inclusiveness and accessibility, tempered by integrity, professionalism and a long experience in the arts sector, and is committed to supporting artists to sustain themselves in their chosen creative field.

The Depot Artspace philosophy, creating an environment which encourages creating, is brought to life by the approach we hold in regards to exhibiting work. We don't need to know which art school you attended, who bought your work, or whether you can write a 2000 word essay backing up your images; all we need to know is, "Are you committed?"

There are several options for exhibiting, all of which are detailed below under Exhibition Spaces.

Exhibition Spaces

Front Room art & object is the ‘new Tardis’, and is situated street-front, as we have put Small Dog Gallery into retirement.

Front Room offers Depot members the opportunity to show work in a prime retail setting at no extra cost to membership. While artists who are serious about ‘getting their work out there’ will benefit the most, Front Room will remain true to the value of inclusiveness by providing an opportunity for all members to submit and show their work.

The Main Gallery is a large industrial space that is excellent for large bodies of work or group shows. This gallery also offers you the opportunity for exploration of collaborative exhibitions and projects using the new movable walls. These walls offer exciting opportunities to re-configure the Main Gallery space to create spaces within exhibitions, and to create new intimate gallery spaces for exhibitions, installations, performance and collaborative projects.

The new Alterspace and Outerspace galleries are situated just beyond the Main Gallery and are best for solo shows, installations, film, sound, and experimental work.

They opened on Saturday 27th March with exhibitions by Edward Fuller and Peter Koran. See the exhibitions pages for more information.

Exhibitors - where to from here?

If you wish to have a solo or group exhibition you can put forward a proposal to exhibit in one of our three rentable exhibition spaces, the Main Gallery, Outerspace and Alterspace galleries. All spaces are available on a 13 day exhibition basis.  As an exhibitor at the Depot you will organise your exhibition with ongoing support and guidance from our curator.  We charge a small rental fee for the space and for all sales a 25% commission applies.

For consideration of your exhibition we require a proposal, the contents of which are outlined in an ‘Expression of Interest to Exhibit’ document which can be picked up from the front desk or download it by clicking here. (350Kb, PDF format- requires Acrobat Reader.)

This is not a method of selection, simply a way of assisting you to develop a cohesive body of work to ensure a successful exhibition, while allowing us to schedule your exhibition in the most suitable space at the best time.

The proposal forms are accompanied by a contract, which outlines the terms of exhibiting at the Depot. The contract contains virtually everything you need to know, so please read it carefully.

If you have any questions or need help with your proposal please contact gallery staff, by ringing us on 09-963 2331 or emailing us via the contact page
