Opening in the Main Gallery as part of the Auckland Photography Festival
Saturday 1st June 3 – 4.30pm
Peter Grant’s Painting Pakistan Proud showcases truck art and its riotous colour through his photography. Karachi artist Younus Nawaz will also be painting and decorating a Kiwi vintage ambulance at the Depot Artspace!
In this interactive, visual and cultural experience, Painting Pakistan Proud has something for everyone. Over the journey of the project the ambulance will become a unique mobile work of art. The exterior will be painted using the latest art truck techniques and inside the vehicle will be Grant’s photographic exhibition of Pakistan truck art. Starting in Wellington, people can watch Nawaz create the strikingly beautiful mobile art that dominates the roads of Pakistan. The project will take to the roads of the North Island visiting town centers, galleries and schools on the way.
The journey will finish here at the Depot Artspace in Devonport with an exhibition of Grant’s photographs in the gallery. Visitors and students will even get to try their own hand applying truck art to a mug or plate with painting workshops.
