Elizabeth Cottrell has always had an eye for retro and antique furniture and believes in the qualities of wool. When she moved to the high country near Taihape, Elizabeth started collecting colourful woollen blankets from second hand stores and decided to upcycle them. She found funky retro chairs from the 1960s with spindly legs and sharp angles.
Elizabeth collaborates with local craftsmen to re-upholster each piece of furniture by hand. The result is a truly unique piece; not one chair or blanket is the same.
In collaboration with this exhibition Depot Artspace will present The Vernacular Lounge, a space that celebrates the vernacular of Aotearoa New Zealand through publications, videos and artwork.
Opening Saturday 15 October, 6pm to 8.30pm.
