‘This series is based on my study of form, light and the mauri behind that.
Without the light how would we see? Would there be form and would our physical world exist? When we read information or see a picture do we see the same thing and do we draw the same conclusions? No, of course we don’t!
My journey reaches into all contexts of form and light. The form of the sun, circular and continuous, the life, the warmth, the colour, the motifs, symbols and chaos that are representative of these things to me.
These works move away from traditional Māori art and remain quite abstract from early conception stages through to completion with different colours, splats, drips, random addition of symbols and idols to represent our origins, Aotearoa and the world around us.’
